Lying
off the south coast of mainland Britain the Isle of Wight offers breathtaking
countryside, stunning beaches, and lots of great attractions. The
Isle of Wight is recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with thirty
miles of shore designated as "Heritage Coast". Golden beaches with safe
bathing, hidden coves and rock pools await to be discovered. On
land, sea and in the air you can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including:
walking, bird watching, cycling, horse riding and golf; swimming, fishing, sailing
and windsurfing; paragliding and hang gliding - the Island is a haven for the
outdoor enthusiasts. Family pubs at Calbourne, Ningwood
and Shalfleet are only a short distance away and each offer excellent atmosphere,
varied menus and of course a wide range of ales. There
is something for all interests, from dinosaur fossil hunting on the beach, to
attractions where you can see flamingos, tigers and butterflies amongst many other. There
are fun parks to enjoy, farm animals to cuddle, museums and an aquarium to visit. Some
of the many attractions that make the Island special are: The Needles, Alum
Bay coloured sands, Osborne House, sailing in Cowes Week, Carisbrooke Castle,
Blackgang Chine, Dinosaur museums, Fossil hunting and red squirrels. Yarmouth,
our nearest small town, is one of the most picturesque and oldest on the Island,
with a busy harbour overlooked by a castle, and a wooden pier ideal for watching
boats on The Solent. For more information on what to see
